Art Roll Fillying Up My Life with My Little Pony

Fillying Up My Life with My Little Pony

I’ve been pretty lucky in my geekery. I’ve never really been ridiculed for the characters and stories that I love. That includes Pokemon. Most people I know don’t play it, have no love for it, but get that I was raised with it and let me go. That goes for dinosaurs, obscure comic characters….anything really.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic broke that streak.

I think almost everyone I’ve brought it up to has said, “Are you kidding me?”.

Including an eight-year-old and a seven-year-old. I was told that, “Only three-year-old babies watch that stuff.” A second-grade girl totally schooled me.

You know what? I don’t even care. This show is beautiful, fun (Pinkie Pie has an Amish background-WTF?!), and really entertaining. Yeah, it is young enough that 3-year-olds can enjoy it, but it still has dragon battles, buffalo stampedes, and magic out the butt. The show is like a checklist of things that entertain me.

And being someone completely in love with Rainbow Brite? In my mind these were always sister franchises, so I was happy to see My Little Pony again. I was always a bigger fan of the toys than the show, but now I can make up for that!

Not to mention, ever since Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends Lauren Faust has been someone I bowed down to. Knowing that it was her hand that designed this show went a long way in making me watch it.

The picture above is Rainbow Dash. For my money she’s the best character that the show has to offer. Spunky and with an unquenchable fire in her belly, she’s my type of filly. She’s also the fastest pony in the skies! Sonic Rainboom, baby!

The show does everything it sets out to do. It encourages friendship, solving problems, all in a fantasy bundle that’s rendered beautifully. I don’t care how many elementary reprimands that I get, I am keeping an eye on My Little Pony.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention it was Chris Sims that converted me to MLP.

If you’re interested, its home on the Hub is pretty good about letting you watch episodes.
