I Saw This #1 Philadelphia Burning

Yesterday I went to a Phillies game with my family. We had the highest row in the stadium which meant behind us was the city and in front of us, a couple hundred feet down, was a baseball game. Everything was going great until about thirty minutes into the game I noticed my family facing the wrong way. Behind us we could see this ominous smoke cloud issuing out of the city of Philadelphia. I think all of our minds immediately flashed to 9-11. It sounds dramatic, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume that’s what most people who saw smoke coming out of a city would think of first. On the car ride home we learned that our fears were thankfully out of proportion.

I didn’t need to draw this, but thinking about drawing it gave me an idea to hatch out of a drawing shell that I’ve been in. I want to draw so many different things, but I don’t. Drawing takes so much time, and I can never get anything that I want to done. Even just drawing one full comic page could take me 6+ hrs, without a challenge. Sculptures take days, and even nice sketches take a couple of hours. It’s not as if I don’t spend my free time drawing, I do, but by the end of the day I still don’t have enough time to get everything down on paper that I want.

That’s why I’m going to start “I Saw This” and “Some-Unnamed-Comic-Title-That-Will-Take-15-Minutes”. Instead of ruminating on how to sleep less and draw more, I’m just going to challenge myself to sketch what I want to in 15 minute segments. Whatever gets done, gets posted. That way I can get the ideas I want to share out, and practice drawing quickly. I do not guarantee quality, or even entertainment. Actually, I could probably gaurentee that you won’t get either, but I’m self-involved enough to be fine with that.

I appreciate you stopping by. Especially if you thought this post was poor quality and not entertaining.
