Once upon a time…I was listening to iFanboy and a few podcasts ago featured a lot of laughing at the anniversary issue of The Amazing Spider-Ham. The idea of the comic always seemed too gimmicky, so I never looked into Spider-Ham. Man, did I learn how wrong I was.
Based on the recommendations I picked up a copy and it was totally enjoyable. Spider-Man has always been one of my top favorite characters and seeing all of his friends and enemies reduced to animals? With silly origins? And oh my goodness- the PUNS. I am such a sucker for puns, and this book revolves around them.
While watching a movie yesterday I absentmindedly started drawing my version of Spider-Ham:
I’m all for anthropomorphic animals, but I the idea of drawing more realistic animals that still were costumed? That made me giggle a lot. So for the rest of the day I set phasers to draw and took a crack at some more of the Spider-Ham cast.
Dr. Octopussy
J.Jonah Jackal
I swear I can hear him yelling, “MS. BRANT.” Or should I say, “Batty Brant”!
The Buzzard ~ Who I loved. He didn’t do anything amazing, it’s just that he failed at being a Vulture. He’s a rat in a vulture costume and is somehow named the buzzard?
Ducktor Doom
Doom was certainly my favorite- as an idea and as a sketch. Also, that entire Assistant Watcher short was just great.
I highly recommend Spider-Ham to everyone and their mothers.
Thanks for stopping!
