Art Roll Super Pet

Super Pet

Young Justice got it right.

In a universe where characters can fly and have freeze breath, why would you settle for pets that are ordinary? Obviously, I know the wonders of Rex and his other pet compatriots, but that doesn’t change my hope that every character starts finding Devil Dinosaurs to pal around with. So when Conner Kent casually adopted a GIANT wolf a couple of episodes ago? I nearly lost my poo.

Take that, Krypto

So now Young Justice is inching up to those other franchises that matches kids with dream animals. I’m immediately reminded of Princess Mononoke, but awesome animal sidekicks can go to a bunch of great shows. Pokemon and Adventure Time are some of my top picks. As I was thinking over what stories had great ties between a character and their animal (there are about half a billion) I REALIZED:

Young Justice just gave Conner Kent a Dire Wolf:

Unquestionably, my favorite ASoIaF character is John Snow, who just happens to be a bastard with a sweet giant white wolf at his beck and call. Nothing like Conner, a bastard experiment with a sweet giant white wolf…..WAIT.

I’m not in the angry nit-picky crowd that might mind this. Nope. This is so kickass I’m totally on board. Really, since I’m so accustomed to super dogs and horses and cats, I never thought that I’d watch an animated hero get anything unique as a pet. I am happy to report that I stand corrected.

While I was doodling these guys, I also sketched another of my favorite aspects of the show:

There’s no hope of me getting over how cute this pair is. I can’t imagine how much work they don’t get done in class thanks to telepathy. Good thing Conner basically has a computer for a brain. And M’gann? Well, she could always pluck answers out of her neighbors brains if she had to.

I do like Conner, but I didn’t expect him to fill up my sketchbook. Hands down I’m on Team Wally, but boy, that kid has done nothing so far. I wait for him to get a real moment to shine, but mostly he just runs into things and hits on the girls. I’m not saying this is out of character, but I would like him to take center stage every once and awhile. Or adopt a komodo dragon, whichever comes first.
