Coloring Page: Unicorn Vs. Narwhal

You have to love Kate Beaton.

No, seriously, you have to. She’s amazing AND when asked to suggest things I get emails like this: “Draw a horse! Because horses are hard to draw, man.”

I’m still giggling at that email. Sad to say this request did not live up to the others. See, Atomic Robo was a fail because it did not come out great, but I did try hard. This post is a fail because I did not try that hard.

Well, I kind of tried. I sat around and sketched horses for an hour or so, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do with them. The point of the blog is to draw something that is unique to the person that asked it. That way I have the sense that they want to see the picture, and that motivates me to complete it. Generalization, as funny as it is, was not motivating. But I did not want to let Ms. Beaton down, so I thought of what horses I loved. Then I remembered this Youtube video. I flippin’ love that video.

So, this was born:

If I really tried hard on this I would have tried to make it its own epic piece. I was content with the fact that I had my inking tools out and a piece of bristol nearby. As a cartoon I’m satisfied, holy heck it is a picture of a Unicorn and a Narwhal, but I do know that I could have done more. Maaaaaaaan.

It did give me an excuse to share one of my favorite rivalries, so there’s that.

Now I’m back on time and you guys can look for a hopefully sweet pic on Sunday.
