Art Roll This is My Job

This is My Job

This is largely what my job consists of. Today I had the honor of making sure that the microfilm were in numerical order. Two days ago I got to place flag after flag in books that might be withdrawn. Three days ago I got to make sure that the reference books were on the shelf where they said they were.

All of these jobs come with huge lists that need to be check marked, highlighted, and include notations for when there is a wild surprise that the list did not anticipate.

Woooo.

Don’t get me wrong, I love libraries. But I’ve learned after four years of working here that I love public libraries. I love helping people that want books, need suggestions, have interesting questions, and that I can have a give and take with. Being regulated to some dusty floor for hours on end with a five pound list is not my ideal job.

Despite what I don’t like about the job, I’ve learned new things in my four years. I’ll give the job that bone.

No secret though-the quicker I can get back to a public library, the happier I’ll be.

‘Bout the Picture: Just some quick sketches done of exactly what I did today. The sitting positions are all ones that I took, and after an hour and a half I found one mistake- and that is the mistake in the word balloon. First done in marker, then taken real quick to photoshop to overlay the grays in. The entire piece (except for the 5 minute photoshop) was done at the circulation desk.

This pic also serves as a shout out to iFanboy. In the first picture you can see the earbuds that I perpetually wear at work (suspiciously missing from the fifth panel).  I don’t know how I would have survived these last two semesters without iFanboy. Listening to any content helps, but they’re my favorite podcast by far. If you like comics you should check them out!
