Art Roll WIWW #3: Baby Dinosaurs

WIWW #3: Baby Dinosaurs

I totally fell off the drawing wagon this week. Well, drawing from that DC Guide anyway. I was up most mornings drawing, but it was what I wanted to work on, so this entire week was kinda whatever I wanted.  Today also isn’t Wednesday…. but if I was on task, and if this was Wednesday, this is what I would have posted….so why not?

How many of these guys can you name?! My favorite is the Amargasaurus.

I can be a little happy. On my walk to work I read, so for the last week I’ve been working through Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art by Scott McCloud. It’s AWESOME. I tried to read it awhile ago, but it’s not easy reading. McCloud takes comics as a serious art form and analyzes it stupendously. I never think about comics. I just know that I’ve always loved reading, always loved drawing, and comics is what brings those together. Through this book I’m forced to pause and consider how different aspects of the comic affect the reader. I’ve learned a lot. And like I said, some of it’s tough going. I’ve been rereading pages to try and glue it into my brain.

Best sequence so far is the discussion about Magritte’s “The Treachery of Images“. Magritte is a silly awesome artist, and when a book is relating comics to Magritte? This is a win.

Thanks for stopping!
